FINAL IMAGES OF MY STOOL

Final Prototype

MY STOOL!

Made out of 2mm Aluminium, powder coated in white and finished with 8mm nuts and bolts. I also created spacers with 10cm wooden feet and bearing spacers from a skateboard.

1:2 CARD MODEL

The thing i like about this design is i can have the aluminium (2-3mm) laser cut and then experiment with what i will use to hold the legs together (either use spacing or not) and also what screws will look good.

I will also need to look at what i will put at the bottom of the legs.

It will be one part cut three times to make this stool as each side is exactly the same.

Paper 1:5 Model

I tested the folds and design with paper first to make sure the flat pack plan would work as i had hoped.....

Exploded Perspective of Proposed Stool

Each of the three sides will be connected with screws through the inner tabs as shown in the picture.

1:5 CARD MODEL

Here i have experimented with card to create my stool in 1:5. Things i will look at changing are the curves in which the seat folds down to the side. The card created quite sharp 90degree edges where i might try a more curved edge with the metal. Also the inner folds on the base all seem to meet with the current design but i might try and either fold them up with the metal or make them shorter so it doesn't create an un-even base. Maybe will look into some sort of bracing for the inside.

Experimentation with construction concepts

Folding over the edge of each triangle with create a surface to connect each together.

Using a cross fold with allow greater strength within the design.

Folding each edge to create smooth surfaces as steel sheeting can be extremely sharp.
